About this type
The Avro RJ85 is the improved BAe 146: four small turbofans, a high wing, and famously quiet manners that let it sneak into noise-restricted city airports. London City was practically built around this family.
Today the RJ85's second life is firefighting: Conair's air tankers drop retardant across North American fire seasons. The airliner that whispered into city centres now roars over wildfires.
First flight: March 23, 1992 (RJ85).
Four engines on a 90-seat jet, unique in its class.
Conair operates RJ85 air tankers against wildfires.
