About this type
The largest aircraft in the US Air Force: a re-engined giant that kneels on its landing gear to load cargo through both nose and tail. Only 52 exist, all upgraded from Cold War C-5s.
Its size distorts intuition on approach: it seems to hang motionless, and it is simply enormous and far away.
First flight: June 19, 2006 (C-5M configuration).
The nose swings up so vehicles can drive through the fuselage.
Can carry two main battle tanks at once.
