About this type
The CL-415 is a purpose-built firefighting flying boat: it skims a lake at 130 km/h and scoops six tonnes of water in about twelve seconds, then drops it on the fire and goes back for more, dozens of times a day.
Mediterranean summers run on this aircraft. Watching a pair of Super Scoopers work a coastline fire is unforgettable, and their low-level laps often land right in your sightings log.
First flight: December 6, 1993.
Scoops ~6,100 litres in about 12 seconds.
Nicknamed the Super Scooper in California.
