About this type

The F-16 Fighting Falcon, known to its pilots as the Viper, is the most numerous Western fighter ever built: about 4,600 airframes across dozens of blocks and licensed lines. It began as a lightweight day fighter and became everything.

Fighters rarely announce themselves on 1090 MHz, but training flights and ferry hops sometimes do. An F-16 in your Dex is the kind of catch you mention casually and often.

First flight: February 2, 1974 (accidentally, during a taxi test).

~4,600 built, flown by 25+ air forces.

Pilots call it the Viper, never the Fighting Falcon.
