About this type
The Global Express was Bombardier's 1990s bet that corporate jets could fly farther than airliners: launch to nonstop New York-Tokyo range. The family grew through the XRS into the Global 6000, all sharing the GLEX code.
The US Air Force flies Global Express airframes as the E-11A BACN, a communications relay nicknamed Wi-Fi in the sky, orbiting for hours to bridge radios across mountain ranges.
First flight: October 13, 1996.
Global 6000 is the 2011 rename of the Global Express XRS.
The E-11A relay version orbits at 40,000+ feet for 10+ hours.
