About this type

A flying gas station older than the jet age's memory: the KC-135 first flew in 1956, and re-engined R models still anchor aerial refueling today. Few airframes anywhere have worked this long.

Descended from the same Dash 80 prototype as the Boeing 707, it is a living branch of the very first jetliner family tree.

First flight: August 31, 1956 (KC-135A).

The R model swapped in CFM56 engines for a second life.

Many airframes are past 60 years of service.
